Lifeview Celebrating Another Fabulous Nutrition And Hydration Week

on Thursday, March 22, 2018

Lifeview Residential Care’s four aged care homes have once again celebrated a week of fabulous activities as part of the growing global awareness event that is Nutrition and Hydration Week.

The event, which started, and is managed in the United Kingdom, has grown to where it is now a global celebration and education week for those in the hospital, and aged care sector. Lifeview is the only Australian aged care provider currently taking part in this week.

For the past two-years Lifeview has undertaken various activities for the week and this year, once again, a week of fun events based around food and drink were facilitated for its residents and staff.

Lifeview’s 2018 Nutrition and Hydration Week featured Milkshake Monday, Thai Tuesday, Weird and Wonderful Wednesday where residents tried different foods including kangaroo, goat and possum sausages, “Turrsday” celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, and finished with deep-fried Mars Bars, Frappes and donuts on Fryday.

“We know that good food, and in fact the whole dining experience, are very important factors to those who live in aged care. At Lifeview, meal times, and all our menus are designed to be an event, something to look forward to, Lifeview CEO Madeline Gall said.

“This week of food and drink based events is not only fun for everyone but a reminder of the significance good food plays in the lives of all Australians. It also gives residents the chance to try new and different foods in a relaxed social setting – we cannot however guarantee they will like everything they try!

“Hydration is also especially important particularly for residents living with dementia, so coming up with new and novel ways to encourage residents to drink more assists us to ensure their fluid intake is adequate”, she added.

Each Lifeview home also hosted a Smoothie Bike for a day, where residents, including 101-year old Pixie, and staff pedaled for 30 seconds to be rewarded with a delicious, healthy smoothie.
