Regis Celebrates Volunteers as Part of National Volunteer Week

on Thursday, May 24, 2018

As National Volunteer Week 2018 comes to a close, Regis Aged Care continues to celebrate those who volunteer their time at Regis’ various aged care locations throughout Australia.

Regis has a dedicated team of volunteers who contribute their time, talents and services to assist staff and residents with a variety of activities and events.

This year’s theme – Give a Little, Change a Lot – is dedicated to the tireless work volunteers do, and Regis would like to acknowledge their 2017 Volunteer of the Year finalists, Norman Tarrant and Shirley Ann Brough.

Shirley volunteers her time at Regis Marleston in South Australia where she runs art classes twice a week for residents. Her sessions are a highlight for many residents, attributed to her enthusiasm for showing that everyone – no matter their skill level or ability- can be an artist. Shirley will often modify the tools used to suit residents with special needs. She also frames the artworks herself, which is then displayed throughout the aged care residence for all to admire.

Norman is an important part of the volunteer team at Regis Port Stephens in New South Wales – he has been volunteering there for 10 years! His weekly visits are anticipated by both residents and staff, with his Men’s Club an integral part of life for many male residents. He also volunteers as a bus driver and often takes residents on special outings, where he is willing to do anything to make someone’s day better.

Volunteers play an vital part in each resident’s quality of life by providing support for their well-being, promoting self-esteem and personal fulfilment through a social and creative environment. They help by sharing their skills, talents, knowledge or just coming for a chat with Regis’ residents. If you are interested in volunteering for Regis, visit regis.com.au/careers/volunteers/
