Kingsway College Students Learn Life Stories from Bethanie Residents

on Wednesday, September 9, 2015

Bethanie, Western Australia’s largest not-for-profit aged care and living provider, has teamed up with Kingsway Christian College students to partake in a great opportunity to interview the Bethanie Geneff residents about their life stories.

With dementia on the rise and with an ageing population, it is important to reduce the stigma and myths about dementia. The students have the opportunity to meet residents, interview them and write their life stories, a tool that is very useful for people who are developing dementia.

The students will then present the life stories to the residents as a keepsake and as a tool for staff and families to help engage in deeper and meaningful conversation. This activity is a great learning opportunity for students, who will have a better understanding of dementia and how to communicate with those who have dementia.

There will be different students visiting the Bethanie Geneff Village each Monday for the next month. This activity follows a Dementia presentation that was held at Kingsway Christian College on Monday 24th August, by Bethanie Dementia Consultant, Michelle Harris and Bethanie Chaplain, David Van Leen.
