Colleen has been a Care Connect client for a little over 12 months. She has a Home Care Package and was initially with another provider, but wanted something more. A friend whose mother was a Care Connect client recommended the not-for-profit, and Colleen made the switch. Navigating the Aged Care system can be overwhelming, and many older Australians are unsure where to start when it comes to accessing support. To bridge this gap, Right at Home launched its Community Program, offering free educational sessions designed to help seniors and their families understand their options and make informed decisions about their care.
“Life before I came in here was one hell of a mess,” tells Gill Waminda Aged Care Centre resident and NDIS client, Brian. “It was my own fault to let it get that way, but it got that far, and I couldn’t do anything about it.” Today, five years since he first arrived at the Centre, his NDIS Support Worker, Amy, proudly reflects of Brian’s transformation. “Brian has been fully rehabilitated in the five years he’s been here,” she says. “He is very proud of the man he is today.”
IRT will hold a second round of community drop-in sessions this week to allow stakeholders to review updated plans for the future redevelopment of its seniors’ living community on Popes Road, Woonona.
