Christmas Matters at Mercy Health

on Thursday, December 24, 2015

Christmas cheer is alive and well at Mercy Health’s residential aged care homes across the country, with more than 50 festive activities held in the lead up to Christmas.

Highlights included carols, visits from school groups, lunches and nightly Christmas light tours and, at one home, lunch at Moonee Valley Racecourse.

At Mercy Place Mount St Joseph’s, located in Young, New South Wales, residents enjoyed twilight carols with staff, friends and family in their courtyard.

The home’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Samantha Paget says social activities provide an opportunity to chat and reminisce and is a vital part of Mercy Health’s Eden Model of Care.

“Because of their health, many of our residents can’t leave Mount Saint Joseph’s so twilight carols allowed residents to invite their families to their home here to celebrate Christmas.”

Samantha says staff do their best to make sure Christmas is a special time for everyone.

“Staff are very involved in these activities. This week, residents enjoyed two evening drives around town to look at Christmas lights. Most have lived locally their whole lives and this activity reconnects them to their beloved town of Young.”
