University of Canberra Site for New Aged Care Facility

on Friday, December 18, 2015

A 150-bed aged care facility will be built at the University of Canberra under an agreement to be signed today.

The facility, which will be designed, built, owned and operated by Moran Australia, is scheduled to open in January 2018.

The facility will also be used as a place for university students to be trained in aged care, management and marketing.

The UC Moran Health Cluster is also expected to incorporate a small-scale private hospital, a radiological oncology service, a large-scale diagnostic and imaging service, pathology services and laboratory-based research facilities.

University of Canberra vice-chancellor Professor Stephen Parker said the facility would play a major role in the development of the university's growing health precinct.

He said the aged care facility would provide work-integrated learning opportunities for healthcare students as well as creating research opportunities for the university's Health Research Institute.

"The development will provide students with on-site training and paid employment in areas including health, aged care, childcare, management, design, communication and marketing," he said.

Moran Health Care Group managing director Peter Moran said the development represented an "exciting progression of healthcare, aged care, childcare, education and innovation in Australia."
