New art classes at Mercy Place Fernhill have proven so popular that there could soon be a waiting list to attend.
A volunteer artist has run the weekly classes at the Sandringham home since October 2015, with the original group of six residents growing to a dozen as word spread.
The volunteer guides the class, bringing in objects such as vases and flowers, and residents can create using their preferred medium.
“Each resident does their own work at their own pace, and they can express themselves through their art,” said Lifestyle & Volunteer Manager Karren Gooding.
“They are thoroughly enjoying it, and there is talk of holding an art exhibition in the New Year.”
Mercy Health hopes to introduce art classes at all its aged care homes, with classes already underway at Mercy Place Fernhill, Mercy Place Montrose, Mercy Place Parkville, Mercy Place Shepparton and Mercy Health Bethlehem Home for the Aged.
