Fun and Laughter the Theme of International Happiness Day at Mercy Health

on Monday, March 21, 2016

Claremont resident and aged care carer Norbu Yangzom hails from ‘the land of happiness’, so it’s perfectly logical that she was focused on injecting a large dose of joy into the lives of seniors at Mercy Place Mont Clare on International Day of Happiness on March 20.

Ms Yangzom, who was born and brought up in Bhutan – known as the ‘happiest country in the world’ - is a carer to seniors at the Mercy Health aged care home, and helped residents celebrate International Day of Happiness.

“Bhutan is very family orientated, which is why I think it is such a happy place and I also think that’s why I love my job here at Mont Clare, the staff and residents are like my own second family and they are everything to me,” says the 25-year-old, whose dream is to study nursing later this year.

“I get so much pleasure from the smaller things in life, going to the grocery store and buying lovely fresh vegetables, cooking for my friends at the weekend and spending time reading at home, so although I miss my own family I feel very lucky to be living here in Perth and working for such a lovely not-for-profit.”

Mercy Health WA State Manager, Ms Anita Ghose, said residents and staff had been looking forward to celebrating International Day of Happiness, with a special morning tea enjoyed by all residents.

“We are extremely fortunate to have many committed and dedicated staff, like Norbu, that are only too happy to go the extra mile to care for our residents and make sure their days include laughter and happiness,” she said.

“Each and every day staff tell me how they consider the residents for whom they care to be like family, and this sentiment certainly shines through at Mont Clare.”
