Seniors at Mercy Place Mandurah Take a Trip Down Memory Lane Thanks to Talented Volunteer

on Thursday, June 2, 2016

They say it’s the simple things in life that create the most pleasure, which is why Larry Hebbard’s gift to residents at Mercy Place Mandurah is so heartfelt.

Mr Hebbard, who is the husband of Mercy Health’s Administration Assistant Sally Hebbard, has spent many hours over the last month painstakingly crafting an ice cream cart for residents at the aged care home.

As the new addition was officially unveiled this week, residents made it clear that it wasn’t just the prospect of unlimited ice creams that would bring huge pleasure, it was the reminder of their childhoods years, when ice cream carts represented the most anticipated time of the day.

Mercy Place Mandurah Service Manager, Christina Venables, said residents at the home had already reminisced about chasing after ice cream trucks when they were small, and the happy childhood memories that had been created as a result.

“We’re thrilled that Larry has taken the time and effort to create this gorgeous ice cream stand for us, which our residents love already, as well as our staff,” Ms Venables says.

“In doing so, he has not only created something that will bring a huge amount of pleasure to our residents, but it has also facilitated them recalling many happy memories from their childhood, and the simple pleasures gained from enjoying an ice cream with friends in their younger years.”
