Vincentian Aged Care: Celebrating 50 Years of Supporting and Caring for the Community

For 50 years, Vincentian Aged Care has been a safe haven to those who sought shelter, a cooked meal or family support with the East Sydney icon, celebrating its Golden Jubilee earlier this month. 

Operated by leading not-for-profit aged care provider, Catholic Healthcare, Vincentian Aged Care continues serving those less fortunate, in particular seniors who are in need of aged care services.

This iconic landmark remains dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for the city’s most vulnerable. The aged care service now provides residential care and community programs offering support to people with mental illness or on the verge of homelessness.

The change in care and focus began with the growing need to address the region’s problem of homelessness and mental health issues prevalent in the ageing community. As the community’s need for aged care services grew in the late 90’s, Vincentian underwent a major refurbishment. Following a successful aged care accreditation, Vincentian’s core mission shifted, nevertheless continuing to provide care and accommodation to the communities most vulnerable.

Catholic Healthcare’s Residential Care General Manager, Anne Maree Hodgson said, “Vincentian Aged Care has definitely evolved over the years but the focus has not veered from person centred-care, helping the vulnerable or marginalised. I am pleased Catholic Healthcare has continued serving the community’s less fortunate and continues to seek and respond to the community’s aged care needs as they emerge.”
