A Safe Place to Call Home

on Wednesday, August 24, 2016

Kristen Grainger is no stranger to the aged care industry, with more than 20 years’ experience and 12 years dedicated to the residents from Catholic Healthcare - Charles O’Neill Hostel in Newcastle.

Thanks to Kristen and her team, Catholic Healthcare's award winning residential aged care service is receiving attention for its popular art therapy program and the positive effects the program is having on its residents.

Built on the concept of having a safe home, which is at the heart of everything the team works tirelessly towards making a reality, the 'A safe place to call home' program won the 2015 Team Innovation category at the HESTA Aged Care Awards.

The award is acknowledgement of Charles O'Neill Hostel's commitment to providing care to people who often fall through the system,  turned away or referred from other services that don’t have the adequate resources to provide care for people with a mental illness.
