Bethanie and Agelink Theatre Presents Some Enchanted Afternoon

on Friday, August 19, 2016

Bethanie, one of Western Australia’s most well known not-for-profit aged care and retirement living providers, is collaborating with Agelink Theatre to present ‘Some Enchanted Afternoon’ on Saturday 10 September as part of Dementia Awareness Month.

The free event for people with dementia, their carers and interested parties will be based on music and memories encouraging Bethanie residents to come along, share stories and celebrate their lives.

Bethanie Dementia Consultant Michelle Harris says, “The event is about stepping back in time by sharing past stories and singing favourite songs from our youth, creating a sense of wellbeing and quality of life.”

The Bethanie Dementia Approach is to help maximize the quality of life and increase the awareness and importance of personhood.

“Dementia can impact anyone and at any time of their life. Living a life with a purpose and enhancing your wellbeing can help the people living with dementia and reduce the stigma from it,” said Michelle.

Following successful trial visits to Bethanie last year, where performers engaged with residents through music and items from the reminiscence box connected to the five senses, Agelink Theatre is excited to be launching this new initiative with Bethanie.

Demonstrating how music can be energizing and increase mental alertness, the performers will delight the crowd with numbers from Rodgers and Hammerstein and the Riversea Choir.

Some Enchanted Afternoon is a free event that will entertain, uplift and inspire. Bookings are essential as space is limited.
