Book Week visit brings a smile to dials

Last week at Resthaven Marion, residents were delighted to host a group of students from St Thomas School, Goodwood, as part of ‘Book Week’. 

The students, who were dressed in a variety of amazing costumes, first enjoyed lunch in the garden, which residents had decorated as a magical fairy glen, before an animated reading of Mem Fox’s Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Coordinating Chaplain, Rev Dr Bruce Grindlay. 

This was followed by a musical performance by the students, before they moved into the lounge to read stories with the famous ‘Red Hat Ladies’ of Resthaven Marion.

"The students had all brought their favourite book to read to residents, and were delighted to show off their reading prowess," said Manager, Anthea Tyler.

The afternoon ended with a visit from 'Captain Jack Sparrow' (Resthaven Marion's Maintenance Man), who handed out goody bags to all the children.

Amongst other treats, the goody bags each contained a knitted teddy, lovingly handmade by Craft Group members, Gary and Vera.

"Students were amazed to learn that the two ladies had knitted so many teddies!" said Anthea. "The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and residents alike. Thank you to the students of St Thomas School for visiting!"
