Traineeships on Offer for CareerAbility Graduates

on Thursday, November 17, 2016

IRT Group has announced that two participants of the successful CareerAbility in Aged Care program will be offered traineeships with IRT Care.

The pilot program designed for people with intellectual disabilities to kick-start a career in the growing aged care industry has been hailed a success following the participants' graduation this evening. "Today's announcement is the icing on the cake for what has been a very positive experience for all those involved," said IRT Group CEO Nieves Murray.

"I'm thrilled that two of our graduates will join IRT as trainees and be invited to combine the completion of their studies at IRT College with paid employment in an IRT Care Centre," Ms Murray said. "And I'm pleased to say that no CareerAbility in Aged Care graduate will be left behind.

"IRT College will offer our five remaining graduates the opportunity to complete their training with the College at no cost, thanks to funding support from the NSW Government's Smart and Skilled Program."

The Smart and Skilled Program helps people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. In an industry where a recent job market report found there were four times the number of jobs than there were workers, IRT Group hopes to diversify its workforce by employing more people with disabilities in aged care roles.

"What a great outcome for everyone involved in this innovative program, and especially our inspiring graduates," Ms Murray concluded.

The ten week program, a collaboration between IRT Group and The Flagstaff Group, has seen participants complete three work placements at IRT William Beach Gardens in Kanahooka as part of their training to complete four units towards a Certificate III in Individual Care.
