Age is no barrier to having fun - that’s the message that rang out loud and clear when residents from Bolton Clarke’s Centaur Memorial community at Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast, hit the road for a holiday to the Gold Coast last week.
Keith Netting spent many years as the sole carer of his wife Joy. But when her dementia progressed, he reached a point when he felt he had to ask for help. “She started waking up in the night and I realised I could no longer manage on my own,” Keith said. “I spoke to my daughter Ros, and she contacted ACH Group.”
“We’re not here to change the person with dementia, we have to change.”
That is the sentiment of Fronditha Care Personal Care Worker Leah Paul, who cares for people with dementia every day.
Today, Braemar Presbyterian Care will be taking part in the first annual recognition day for individuals who work in aged care.
