A lot of people struggle with the decision to place a loved one in aged care, they often ask when is the right time?

Whilst there is no easy time to place a loved one in aged care, many people reach the right time when they realise they can no longer practically provide care for their loved one by themselves.

Many people choose to begin with Home Care services, which means that the elderly person can remain living in their own home while care staff visit for a set amount of hours each week. 

Home Care is a logical first step and can help your loved one stay in their home for as long as possible.

However, some people will progress to a point where part-time nursing care in their own home is no longer practical, and they need to be cared for 24 hours a day by professionally trained staff. 

Once you fear for your loved ones health, safety and wellbeing, despite part-time nursing care and informal caring by other family members and friends, then you have most likely reached the right time for permanent residential aged care.

Bringing a smile to someone’s day is the main motivator for Mrs Dorothy Pyne, a resident at Resthaven Port Elliot, who turns 100 on 30 June.

A gifted hobby artist, Dorothy creates beautiful hand-illustrated greeting cards, which she presents to people on their birthday, as well as when they arrive at the residential aged care home.

Wellness Centre to Open at Homestyle Aged Care Belmont Grange

Homestyle Aged Care is set to open a Wellness Centre at their Belmont Grange home in Grovedale in early July. The new facility is part of a major refurbishment project at Belmont Grange, which includes upgrades to residents’ rooms and communal areas. Benetas Homes Participate in World-First Study Testing Impact of Ultraviolet Light on COVID-19

Six Benetas aged care homes will take part in a world-first study, run by the Victorian Department of Health, to see if invisible ultraviolet light can decrease the impact of COVID-19 and flu in aged care settings.  

The 12-month Elucidar study, developed in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, will start in early July with more than 60 aged care homes participating across Melbourne and Geelong.
