Resthaven’s Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Peter Jenkin has been awarded the Innovation Award at the Palliative Care Council’s South Australian Palliative Care Awards for 2013.
The award recognises an individual who has demonstrated innovation and ingenuity in their contributions to the advancement of the palliative care field.
“I am privileged to win the innovation award for my work championing palliative care for older people and particular the evolving Nurse Practitioner role” said Mr Jenkin.
The awards were announced at Government House by patron of the Palliative Care Council South Australia Mrs Liz Scarce, and her husband Governor of South Australia His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR.
Resthaven CEO Richard Hearn said Resthaven appreciated the acknowledgement of Peter’s work, and the work of his role as a nurse practitioner in aged care.
“It also acknowledges publicly the significant work undertaken in aged care services, both in residential and community care, to support older people who are in the end stages of life. Tremendous work is undertaken by staff and volunteers working alongside the individual’s medical practitioner and family carers, all of whom combine to provide important support at this very important stage” he said.
