Resthaven Port Elliot will be opened today and dedicated by the Moderator of the Uniting Church in South Australia, Dr Deidre Palmer.
The ‘Encounter Hall,’ will be filled as approximately 100 guests gather to celebrate the culmination of this six year, $28m project.
"Local interest has been very strong, and places are already filling rapidly," said Resthaven CEO, Richard Hearn.
When running at capacity, this state of the art aged care facility will provide high quality care for up to 94 older people, and around 100 local jobs. Twenty staff are already on deck in preparation. Residents will begin moving into the residential site in late May.
"We will also offer wellness services from the renovated, heritage-listed old school house, located at 50 North Terrace, which will operate under the 'umbrella' of Resthaven Murray Bridge, Hills and Fleurieu Community Services," said Mr Hearn.
Four independent retirement living units, at 54 North Terrace, complete the 'campus' which takes up an entire block, and is surrounded by new footpaths and landscaping.
Key staff have been appointed, with Strathalbyn’s Pamela Alde taking on the role of Manager, Residential Care Services.
"Pamela played a pivotal role in establishing Resthaven’s Mount Gambier site, which opened in July 2011. She is an experienced site manager, and her expertise will be of great benefit to Resthaven Port Elliot.
‘I am confident that the range of new services we offer here will provide a much needed service to older people throughout the Fleurieu," Mr Hearn said.
