Minister for Small Business and Federal Member for Dunkley, the Hon Bruce Billson MP, officially opened Peninsula Grange Aged Care on July 9, Australian Unity’s newest residential aged care facility.
Located in Mornington, Victoria, Peninsula Grange Aged Care will be home to 102 residents and offer new levels of choice and flexibility through the award-winning Better Together® model of care.
Peninsula Grange provides a continuum of care for residents, with the residential aged care and premium retirement village co-located on the same site.
Australian Unity Retirement Living Chief Executive Officer Derek McMillan said the facility’s holistic approach to health, lifestyle and care services is a departure from the conventional care approach and sets a new standard of living for older people.
“We want to give residents more control over their daily lives and tailor services as much as possible to their individual needs and preferences.
“Residents get up in the morning at a time of their choosing; decide what and when they want to have breakfast, and if they prefer to have their meals while watching their favourite television show that is fine,” Mr McMillan said.
The building design also reflects the Better Together approach. Each wing of the facility has comfortable and flexible spaces for small groups of residents to connect with each other.
The open plan living and communal kitchen layout resembles a homelike environment which provides greater opportunity for residents and staff to interact, and lets residents participate in meal preparation.
Exercise spaces are intricately landscaped and memory support rooms are provided for dementia care.
The latest technology has also been incorporated into the facility including sensor-activated lighting fitted in all resident rooms, 24- hour assistance, and social networking capabilities to enhance the resident experience and assist staff with providing quality care.
The Hon Bruce Billson said, “The Mornington Peninsula is home to a high concentration of older Victorians and this centre will help meet local demand. It is important older Australians have choice in aged care services, and want and deserve to live active and healthy lives.
“It is great to see such thought and innovation at Peninsula Grange that enables positive ageing and supports the wellbeing needs of our older community members now and into the future.”
Peninsula Grange Aged Care features a range of modern facilities including an onsite hair and beauty therapy salon, private consulting rooms for visiting medical professionals, outdoor spaces for family BBQs and a play area for visiting grandchildren.
Individual resident rooms feature private en suites, Smart TVs and Foxtel connection, and Volker Healthcare beds for extra comfort.
