Intergenerational Choir Brings Joy to Residents and Students

on Thursday, December 10, 2015

Residents at Mercy Place Fernhill have performed Christmas carols and classical hits alongside local primary school students.

The Intergenerational Choir, made up of residential aged care residents and students from St Mary’s Primary School in Hampton, has been rehearsing every Monday since September.

Lifestyle & Volunteer Aged Care Manager Karren Gooding said the Intergenerational Choir was designed to improve health and wellbeing, promote happiness and inspire greater social connections.

“Choir practice has proven to be one of the highlights on our residents’ weekly social calendars. This program brings together their love of music and helps maintain their relationships with the local community,” Ms Gooding said.

“At Mercy Health we recognise the importance of encouraging intergenerational activities in each of our homes. All of our residential aged care homes either host playgroups or regular visits from school students, which benefit everyone involved.”

The Intergenerational Choir performed as part of Mercy Place Fernhill’s Christmas party for residents and families.
