New Board Appointment for Southern Cross Care SA & NT

Mr Klaus Zimmerman has been appointed onto the Southern Cross Care SA & NT’s board, after long serving Board Member Mr David Lloyd AM retired.

Southern Cross Care SA & NT, CEO Mr Andrew Larpent OAM said, “We are delighted to announce Mr Klaus Zimmerman AM has been appointed to the vacant Board position. We look forward to working with Klaus and to continue the good work the community has come to expect from us after nearly 50 years in the business.”

Mr Zimmerman’s appointment commenced 1st February 2016, and said at the time of his appointment, “Australia has one of the best aged care systems in the world compared to most other countries from an accessibility, quality, service delivery and affordability view point.

"Much has been achieved over the past several decades to meet the needs of the elderly in Australia. With a rapidly ageing demographic aged care organisations and the legislative framework need to keep evolving to meet future needs."

"In addition, the age pension and superannuation systems need to complement the ageing demographic. As part of the Southern Cross Care Board, I will continue to pursue these strategic and operational goals,” said Mr Zimmerman.

Who is Mr Klaus Zimmerman AM?

Mr Zimmerman has 30 years+ extensive experience in CEO and senior executive positions and non-executive board membership including being the Chair with a management/finance background and has worked in the aged care sector since 1991.

In January 2014 he was awarded an Order of Australia for services to the Aged Care Sector.

From August 2001 to September 2013, Klaus held the CEO position of one of the larger South Australian based not for profit aged care organisations specialising in Residential Facilities, Community Care and Retirement Villages for the elderly.

Mr Zimmerman also works as a non-executive director of HESTA Superannuation Fund, ISPT Super Property Trust, Commonwealth Association for the Ageing Ltd, The New Daily Pty Ltd. He also sat on the state and national aged care industry board for many years and is a past National President and Chair of ACSA (September 2007 to November 2011) which is the major lobby organisation for the NFP aged care sector - which in total is a $20billion+ industry comprising many stakeholders.
