Cynthia Payne, CEO SummitCare joined Clr Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor, The Hills Shire Council and 90 other enthusiastic local supporters at the 'The Hills Shire Mayoral Sleep out' on Saturday.
The Hills Winter Sleep Out is a unique, overnight community event that raises awareness of homelessness and the factors such as DV (domestic violence), financial hardship, mental illness that can lead to homelessness in the Hills. The Sleep out also raise vital funds for local charities who work with the homeless, victims of domestic violence and the financially disadvantaged in the Hills community.
The charities support this year include; Community Foundation of Northwest Sydney, Hills Community Aid, Lisa Harnum Foundation and online charity Give and Take.
The sleep was held on Main Street Castle Hill near the old school house offering participants the opportunity to gain an insight into what it would like to be homeless and to rough it on the streets.
‘It was a particularly cold night in Castle Hill getting down to just 3c. The cardboard did little to stop the chills rising from the ground so needless to say the experience was a very cold reminder of how harsh this circumstance is for those who have no home.’ said Cynthia Payne, CEO SummitCare.
Payne goes on to say, ‘SummitCare says a big thank you to all the generous supporters, together we have helped us make a real difference to the lives and wellbeing of many vulnerable people in our local community.’
Anyone who has yet to donate still can as the donation hotline remains open till 6 August: sponsor.eventarc.com/sponsor/view/273623/summit-care
