Care and Support for Northam’s Seniors

on Tuesday, August 2, 2016

WA aged care provider Juniper is providing a full spectrum of care and support to older members of Northam’s community, from retirement living and home care services to residential aged care choices.

While ageing populations are a national trend, this growth is more notable in Northam with a significant proportion in residents aged over 50, according to the Shire of Northam.

Chief Executive Vaughan Harding said in response to the rising needs of older people in the community, Juniper takes a holistic approach to aged care, providing older people and their families with choice, support and the highest level of care and services.

Juniper’s housing and accommodation aims to support independence as well as the sense of security that comes with retirement community living.

“Quality of life is important, especially when you want to be with family and friends, and enjoy independence and your own home for as long as possible,” Mr Harding said.

Juniper’s friendly and dedicated home care team is providing a range of personalised home care and support services to the people of Northam and the wider Wheatbelt area. Low and high level care packages are available as well as transport for shopping trips and appointments including trips to Perth, as needed.

Local Operations Manager Lee-Anne Thomas said Juniper’s home care team is one of the few providers in the region that provide clients with transport to Perth.

“This service is highly valued as many of our clients can no longer drive but are looking to maintain as much independence as possible,” she said.

“We live in a close-knit community and many clients have known us since we were kids. Our staff are professional and experienced but they are also a familiar and friendly face. This is especially important to the older people in our region who are living on their own and doing it tough.”

Juniper has two residential aged care facilities in Northam: Juniper Bethavon on Duke Street and Juniper The Residency on Burgoyne Street, which also provides dementia-specific care.

The move into residential care can be an emotional time and at Juniper we strive to make this transition as seamless as possible. Experienced and compassionate staff deliver the highest quality care and services, tailored to meet individual needs.

“We’re proud of the warm and welcoming environment we’ve created at our residential facilities,” said manager Glenda Kirkman.

“Many of our residents are already familiar with each other and house pets and regular social activities ensure a homely, comfortable lifestyle.”
