A leading not-for-profit provider of seniors care is celebrating Seniors Week across many of its Queensland locations. Churches of Christ Care is bringing the Seniors Week theme of ‘it’s on for young and old’ to life with plenty of action on offer across many of its Queensland services between 13 and 21 August.
Celebrations include an Elvis-inspired 1950s concert on the Fraser Coast, a pop-up dementia friendly café on the Gold Coast and the release of new retirement village units in Warwick. Director of Seniors and Supported Living Bryan Mason said Churches of Christ Care helps seniors to live abundant lives every day with Seniors Week being an ideal time to celebrate the contribution seniors make to our communities.
“Our seniors, whether they are clients, staff or volunteers, all help create the communities in which we operate,” Mr Mason said.
“Without seniors we wouldn’t have the rich tapestry of human life, stories and experiences that make our communities the vibrant places they are today.”
Churches of Christ Care provides for the care needs of tens of thousands of seniors each year across Queensland and Victoria. This includes 22 retirement villages; 28 residential aged care services; home and community care services; community and affordable housing; and providing for seniors’ pastoral care needs.
They also care for thousands of young Queenslanders, providing child care and child protection services. Churches of Christ Care is also a large employer of seniors with 462 staff aged 60 years and over, making up 13.6% of its 3,388 employees.
Seniors also fulfil vital volunteering roles with the charity organisation, in fact 62% of the organisation’s volunteers are considered to be seniors.
“Our oldest employee is 81 years young and works as an administration officer in residential aged care.” Mr Mason said.
“Of over 1,550 volunteers, we have 976 volunteers aged 53 and over, while our most ‘senior’ volunteer is 95 years old!”
Churches of Christ Care has provided care for Queensland seniors for over 85 years and is proud to celebrate Seniors Week which runs from 13 to 21 August 2016.
