Warrigal Goes Solar

on Thursday, April 6, 2017

Warrigal had a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6% on 2014 levels by 2020. Despite the significant upgrades to improve the comfort of their residential aged care homes and the development of new locations, Warrigal's energy consumption (and greenhouse gas emissions) were climbing rather than dwindling.

To combat this, Warrigal has partnered with Solgen Energy Group and Splice Electrical to roll out 520kW of rooftop solar across all of their residential aged care homes. By the end of 2017, all of Warrigal's residential care homes will be generating clean, renewable energy via large scale solar systems, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 15%, more than double their target reduction of 6%. This will have the same effect as taking 134 cars off the road every year.

Warrigal Goulburn was the pilot project, and just before Christmas the installation of a 99.76kW system, a total of 344 solar panels, was completed. Within three months, Warrigal Goulburn has produced 40MW of energy and saved $8,000 in energy bills. Since Warrigal are a not-for -profit, this money will be used to improve the services provided to the community.

In addition, Warrigal have been successful in receiving $10,000 worth of support from the NSW Government to develop a clean energy strategy to become net zero energy.
