Opal Aged Care Continues its $300 Million Investment in Western Sydney with 8 New Homes

on Friday, June 2, 2017

Opal Aged Care hosted the official ground breaking ceremony earlier this week to mark commencement of construction on a $41 million, 149-bed specialist residential aged care facility in Blacktown, one of eight new homes to be built as part of Opal’s $300 million investment in Western Sydney.

The turning of the sod on this new development demonstrates Opal’s commitment to supporting the Western Sydney region, which is now one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing regions in Australia.

The sod will be turned by the Mayor of Blacktown City Cr Stephen Bali, who spoke of his ambitious vision to transform the City.

“Blacktown is a thriving economic powerhouse with a booming population, set to become one of Sydney’s greatest economic, business and residential hubs. With this expansive growth, we will need to provide the infrastructure and services to ensure our Blacktown residents can live, work and age in their community.”

Gary Barnier, Managing Director of Opal Aged Care spoke of the need to support the growing ageing community in Blacktown.

“An extra 200,000 people are expected to call Blacktown home by 2036, over 30,000 of whom will be over the age of 70. It’s vital that we support these residents with access to quality residential aged care at the most important time in their lives”

Opal Blacktown is one of eight new state-of-the-art homes to be built in Western Sydney as part of Opal’s commitment to providing affordable, high quality residential aged care to the community. Opal Aged Care reopened Quakers Hill Nursing Home in 2011, and Opal Cardinal Freeman in Ashfield in July last year. Opal Bankstown is due to open in mid-2018 along with projects starting in Toongabbie, Winston Hills, Penrith, Wentworthville and Cabramatta.

The Opal Blacktown home will offer a new standard of aged care with 108 single rooms, 12 companion rooms and a specialist memory support unit with 17 single rooms, all with ensuites. The home, located on Kildare Road, is perfectly positioned to provide residents easy access to the nearby Blacktown Hospital, and the CBD due to be transformed into a business centre.
