Student Program Begins at Embracia in Moonee Valley

on Thursday, September 28, 2017

Embracia in Victoria have just commenced a student program at Embracia in Moonee Valley. The brand new state-of-the-art aged care home have welcomed the first three students, Angel, Kirandeep and Saisha. These girls join Embracia from the registered traning orginisation VICSEG New Futures.

Embracia in Reservoir already has a well established student program that has been running for over 7 years. This program assists students with their placement hours to complete their Certificate 111- Aged Care, Certificate IV- Leisure & Lifestyle. The program is run by dedicated and passionate student mentors, Helen Dodemaide and Vicki Colyer.

Students complete 120 to 200 hours work experience inside the home and gain training and exposure in all areas of personal care, dementia care and lifestyle. The program follows a traffic light system whereby students abilities and responsibilities are defined by a colour coded traffic light sticker.

A red sticker means the student is there observing and learning. They then progress onto a yellow sticker which indicates they can start to undertake tasks with supervision. The final stage is a green sticker which shows that the student is trained and capable and is preparing for the workforce.

Participants of Embracia's student program are all treated as potential staff with many current Embracia staff past students in the same program. The program also benefits residents as they enjoy a higher ratio of carers who can attend to their needs and provide friendship and fun along the way.
