Clowns, concerts and conga lines was how the Bolton Clarke Centaur Memorial residential aged care site celebrated reaching their milestone 25th Birthday on Tuesday 10 October.
The site celebrated serving the community for a quarter of a century with a festive concert featuring music from local singer Terry Scott, performances by the Coastal Caring Clowns, wheelchair dancing, raffles and a big delicious lunch.
Centaur Memorial is a truly remarkable residential aged care community located in the heart of Caloundra, the site boasts a dedicated cohort of over 70 volunteers, 100 residents and even original staff members who have been working at the site since it first opened.
Diversional Therapist, Pam Greig was one of the original team members who started working at the site the day it opened and still has the same passion for her job today.
“Everything we do here at Centaur Memorial we do for our residents, it is the people here who make coming to work every day an absolute joy,” she said.
“We are so lucky that we have such wonderful relationships with the Caloundra community as well, this includes the Sunshine Coast Volunteers, Caloundra RSL, RedCross and Legacy, they provide invaluable support to our site.”
Residential Manager Bernadette Lee was so proud of her entire team for the effort they made in making the party special for the residents.
“We have a fantastic group of dedicated staff who love coming to work every day and they make this place a truly warm and loving home,” she said.
“I also have to make special mention of our volunteers; we are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers here. Last year they contributed 13,000 hours of work to the site – without them events like this would not be able to happen.”
Centaur Memorial also invited other local residential aged care communities to participate in the festivities include Inverpine and Fernhill who loved the opportunity to celebrate with their neighbours.
“It’s a wonderful excuse to get our residents along to another aged care community – they can meet new people make new friends and of course get up and have a bit of dance too,” said Fernhill Diversional Therapist Kris Gunn.
The site would like to thank the Centaur Memorial community for their continued support for them and their residents, they are looking forward to the next 25 years.
