Regis Armadale Resident Celebrates 100 Years

on Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Genia Melnic was born in Poland in 1918, where she survived concentration camp in Germany. Most of her family, including a small son perished. Surviving the war, Genia and her husband Stanley wanted to be as far away from Europe as possible. Having family in Australia who sponsored them, Genia and her husband arrived in Australia with their three-year-old daughter.

Working seven days a week for many years, Genia and Stanley built a successful knitwear business, factory and shop which made garments for Melbourne celebrity clientele. Wisely investing in property enabled them to enjoy the benefits of their years of hard work.

Sadly Stanley died 30 years ago but Genia is constantly surrounded by her loving family of two daughters, seven grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Genia stayed in her own home until she was 95 years when she made Regis Armadale her home. Genia enjoys the lifestyle, food and care from Regis’ attentive staff.

This week, Genia celebrated her 100th birthday with family from Israel and Australia, as well as residents and staff of Regis Armadale.
