On Tuesday 15 May mecwacare officially opened the mecwacare John Atchison Centre in Hoppers Crossing with a ceremony at the aged care centre.
President of the Senate, Senator the Hon. Scott Ryan attended the morning tea to open the centre, speak to guests and tour the facility with mecwacare Chief Executive Michele Lewis and Chairman of the Board John Hood. Champagne and an assortment of food was served as a string quartet entertained residents, staff, Board members and those who have played such an important role in making the centre what it is today.
Vice Chairman of the Board John Atchison celebrated this honour with his wife Jane and family. John Atchison has been on the mecwacare Board of Directors since 1990. John’s length of service demonstrates an unwavering passion for supporting mecwacare to deliver healthcare to some of Victoria’s most vulnerable people. John is a Forensic Engineer with more than 40 years’ experience in design, construction and project management, and has been involved with every building project mecwacare has undertaken since his appointment.
The mecwacare John Atchison Centre opened for service on 22 January and has progressively seen elderly residents settle in to create a relaxing, supportive home. The centre offers one and two room suites with access to established gardens and balconies. All rooms are private accommodation with an ensuite bathroom, while all two room suites feature lounge areas and kitchenettes. Features of this new residential centre include a movie theatre, private dining rooms for celebrations, a café, a library, activity rooms, an outdoor entertainment area, landscaped outdoor gardens and mecwahair; an on-site hairdressing salon.
