50 Years of Care Celebrated at Catholic Healthcare Charles O’Neill Hostel

on Tuesday, September 4, 2018

One of the oldest standing buildings in the Northern Beaches last week celebrated its 50th anniversary of providing quality care to the elderly.

The Charles O’Neill Retirement Units in Mona Vale were first erected in 1968 before expanding its services to more residents (George Mockler House) in 1976. George Mockler House and Charles O’Neill were then acquired by Catholic Healthcare in 2007.

More than fifty residents, family members and Catholic Healthcare corporate representatives joined the Foundation Day celebrations at George Mockler House where a ceremony was held and some of George Mockler’s oldest residents cut the specially-designed cake.

Sagar Joshi, Residential Care Manager of the home, took the time to address the attendees of the ceremony.

“The volunteers and the staff of Charles O’Neill and George Mockler have been amazing throughout these 50 years,” he said.

“We would not have survived without them.”

Other representatives joining Sagar included Regional Manager, Nick Jones, Mission Manager, Dominic Arcamone, Volunteer Manager, Sue Norman and many others.

The ceremony featured the lighting of three candles, representing the past, present and future of the aged care home, as well as the famous cutting of the cake, which was shared by many of the attendees.

“Here’s to another 50 years,” said Sagar, as he closed the ceremony.
