Cr Jim Mason and Cr Trent Sullivan joined the Arcare Portarlington Community in launching their new street library in November. The street library is for the whole community to enjoy, with everyone welcome to drop off or pick up a book for free.
Decorated to be a miniature version of Arcare Portarlington, the men in the community built the library with the help of the St Leonards Men’s Shed.
Neil and Anne, two authors in the community, cut the ribbon on the library and donated their own books to start it off.
Neil said a few words about what the street library would mean for the community and the importance of reading.
After the official opening, everyone enjoyed tea, coffee and a delicious cupcake made by the Contemporary Catering team at Arcare Portarlington.
The cupcakes were beautifully decorated with book-themes like Harry Potter and the Hungry Catepillar.
The community is looking forward to seeing the book selection grow.
