Victorian aged care provider, Benetas, announced it will relocate its Hazelwood House residents in Churchill to the state of the art Traralgon facility in November this year. The move is part of its five-year strategic plan to support all residents under its industry leading new model of care.
Dalkeith Hostel in Traralgon, is undergoing an expansion and refurbishment which will create apartment like accomodation where small groups of residents can utilise their own kitchen, lounge and dining room. Residents, families and staff of Hazelwood House were notified of the decision this week and assured that everything will be done to ensure a smooth transition for all.
Benetas’ CEO, Sandra Hills OAM said that the local Churchill community holds a strong place in the hearts of Benetas so we will be wanting to work with the community and local Council to ensure there is minimal impact to be had.
“Residents and volunteers for example have created a magnificant rose garden at Hazelwood House and we are keen to preserve this in whatever way those that look after it think is best,” she said.
Paula Trood General Manager Residential Services and Quality and Compliance at Benetas said that while there is a tinge of sadness to be leaving Churchill, we are excited to be able to offer our residents a new care environment that is more home-like and all about them.
“Recent research released by Flinders University in South Australia showed the best approach to care is one where residents live in home-like environments and experience more flexible and personalised care,” she said.
“The completed facility will provide this along with a café and sports bar, hairdresser, library, worship room and a range of lounges, courtyards and terraces suitable for alfresco dining.
“We are proud of our new approach to care and have received lots of positive feedback from families and residents currently living in this style of home.
“Many families for example, have mentioned obvious improvements in their loved ones’ social life and mental health.”
The expansion is well under way and due to be completed by the end of this month. Current Dalkeith Hostel residents will move into the expanded wing making way for the refurbishment of the existing wing from June, ready for Hazelwood House residents to arrive in November.
