Bethanie Recognises Outstanding Contribution of Two of Their Volunteers

Bethanie, Western Australia’s most recognised not-for-profit aged care and retirement living provider has awarded two of their volunteers with Life Memberships, as recognised by the Board. Peg Eaton and Ron Hancock have been tireless volunteers with Bethanie, both contributing decades of volunteer assistance to the organisation.

Ron has been volunteering with Bethanie for over 52 years. In 2016 he was recognised by the Governor for 50 years of service to the community through volunteering and in 2015 he was the winner of the Bethanie Volunteer of the Year award.

Music has been the focus of his volunteering at both Bethanie Kingsley and Bethanie Warwick, bringing joy to customers through his own passion. He has also performed and assisted at church and communion services at Bethanie Joondanna, Bethanie Geneff and Bethanie on the Park. Ron currently volunteers at Bethanie Kingsley and with his wife Beryl, they also regularly visit a 93-year-old Bethanie home care customer and play the piano with her.

Peg Eaton was a foundation board member for Churches of Christ Homes/Bethanie back in 1954, calling people into action through donation of money, time or product. This drive and passion continued to be a part of Peg’s life resulting in an OAM a number of years ago. 

Now in her 90’s, Peg currently lives at Bethanie Geneff and continues to rally the troops, volunteering her time and energy in raising funds for Bethanie’s Operation Christmas Child shoe box appeal conducted across numerous Bethanie sites including Bethanie Kingsley and Bethanie Geneff. In 2018, Peg helped raise enough money to send 400 boxes from Bethanie and with an aim this year to send 500 boxes, she is already raising money.

Bethanie CEO Chris How comments, “On the recommendation of the Bethanie Board, we are pleased to award Peg Eaton and Ron Hancock Life Membership in recognition of their outstanding service to Bethanie. With over 4,500 Western Australians in our care, we simply couldn’t operate without our 500-odd volunteers.

“Whether it’s through social interaction with a resident, participating in games, playing music or helping with the dishes, volunteers like Ron and Peg are invaluable and we truly thank them for their service.”
