Benetas recognised as Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for 13th consecutive year

on Friday, March 1, 2019

Leading not-for-profit aged care provider Benetas has been recognised by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) with an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation for the 13th year in a row.

The WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation is designed to encourage, recognise and promote active commitment to achieving gender equality in Australian workplaces.

Benetas CEO and WGEA Pay Equity Ambassador Sandra Hills OAM said the organisation is thrilled to be a longstanding recipient of the citation.

“Benetas actively promotes the benefits of flexible working arrangements to its employees. To achieve 13 consecutive years of receiving the WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation is phenomenal.
“We are one of only seven organisations in the ‘Healthcare and Social Assistance’ category and have held the citation for the longest in this sector.

“Benetas is constantly pushing to develop and support new and innovative ways to promote gender equality in the workplace. With a female-dominant workforce in the aged care sector, we really focus on challenging stereotypes. Women can have a successful career without making any trade-offs when it comes to family.

“The Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce’s report ‘A matter of care – Australia’s aged care workforce strategy’ outlines the need for a diverse workforce to suit a diverse ageing population, an aim that Benetas is committed to achieving.”

Trends among this year’s recipients include entrenching organisation-wide flexible work practices, tailored parental leave policies to support use by women and men, programs to increase women in leadership, initiatives to support women to return to work and robust analysis and correction of gender pay gaps.

WGEA Director Libby Lyons says that embracing workplace gender equality means different things for different organisations.

“Every employer committed to gender equality embarks upon their own unique journey towards achieving the equal participation by women and men in their workplace.

“We have awarded a record 140 WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citations this year. All of our 2018-19 citation holders are at different stages of their gender equality journey. What unites them is their determination and commitment to achieving workplace gender equality. I congratulate all of these organisations for being agents of change, leading the way forward for other Australian employers to follow.
