Climate Concerns Not Just for Millennials

on Thursday, May 9, 2019

Anglican Care has turned green with several environmental programs either being launched, in pilot or achieved over the past twelve months. The largest, and most significant, recognition sees the group recognised for its environmental sustainability, achieving “Bronze Partner” status with the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage program.  Anglican Care is one of only a handful of aged care organisations in the Hunter to have achieved this acknowledgement.

The Bronze status was achieved with Anglican Care implementing improved environmental practices including a 'Sustainable Environment Policy and Sustainability Framework' which articulates their commitment to achieving economic, social and financial viability, environmental preservation and social responsiveness. The many benefits of the SA program for Anglican Care include the ability to:

  • Improve productivity
  • Integrate environmental strategies with business planning
  • Use resources more efficiently
  • Engage and mentor staff
  • Measure Anglican Care’s carbon footprint and manage emissions
  • Manage environmental risk and ensure compliance
  • Ability to engage in social responsibility activities i.e. Lifestyle Resource Van

These are just a few of the projects Anglican Care's very own environmental warrior, Deb Matthews, is taking on. Deb Matthews has recently completed the prestigious Sustainability Practitioner program with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership held in Melbourne. This honour saw Deb become the first aged care recipient of the Practitioner program.
