Homeless Hounds Benefit From Mont Clare Generosity

on Tuesday, July 23, 2019

A generous donation of hundreds of towels and blankets destined for homeless hounds at the Dogs’ Refuge Home in Shenton Park will mean the four-legged inmates will be kept extra dry and warm this winter.

The pre-loved collection has been donated by not-for-profit Claremont-based aged care home Mercy Place Mont Clare, after seniors heard about the SOS that was put out by the local refuge to help the home’s inmates keep warm on wintry nights.

Mercy Place Mont Clare Service Manager, Joan Lowney, a self-confessed dog lover, said when the residents heard about the Home’s SOS for warm bedding to help the dogs over winter, they were very keen to help out.

“Over the years, we have become aware of the great work being carried out at the Dogs’ Refuge Home in Shenton Park, and in fact pretty much everyone here at Mercy Place Mont Clare is a huge dog lover, so we were very keen to help out,” she says.

Dogs Refuge Home’ President, Karen Rhodes, says the gifting of the towels and blankets was fantastic news, and couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We feel very fortunate to have received this donation from the team at Mercy Place Mont Clare, and are so pleased that they have chosen to support us and our dogs,” Ms Rhodes says.

“We very much rely on the generosity of the community to help us in our mission to rescue and rehome over 1000 dogs a year; every gesture of kindness like this really does go a long way and we’re incredibly grateful.”

The Dogs’ Refuge Home is a registered charity that relies on community support to fund its operations. It has a pro-life policy and does not euthanise any healthy, re-homable animal in its care.
