mecwacare Chief Executive honoured for Distinguished Service in Care

mecwacare Chief Executive Michele Lewis has won the ACSA Victoria Distinguished Service in Care Award at the 2019 ACSA State Awards, which were held in Melbourne on August 9.

Ms Lewis has led mecwacare, an aged care and disability services provider based in Malvern, through a period of unprecedented growth since she became Chief Executive in 2007. An astute businesswoman who seizes every opportunity to support the most vulnerable people in our community, Ms Lewis is driven by a genuine passion to help others and her unwavering meticulous work ethic inspires those around her to be the best they can be.

During her acceptance speech, Ms Lewis credited the entire mecwacare team, from the frontline staff to the Board, for the exceptional work they do providing care and support in the community.

“I am truly humbled by this award, which would not be possible without the ongoing dedication and commitment of the entire mecwacare team, which strives every day to provide high-quality, safe and respectful care to some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” said Ms Lewis.

“From the frontline staff in our residential and community centres, the numerous home care teams across Melbourne and regional Victoria, and the corporate support staff to the leadership team and the Board, you (staff) make coming to work every day a joy and a privilege.”

The award recognises an individual who has worked in the delivery of services to older people and is actively working in the aged care sector. It aims to celebrate the recipient’s outstanding achievement and their contribution to the betterment of the aged care sector. Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) is the leading peak body supporting more than 700 church, charitable and community-based not-for-profit organisations that provide accommodation and care services to older Australians.

mecwacare was also named as a finalist for Aged Care Provider of the Year.
