A Dream Come True for Lee Kernaghan Fan

on Tuesday, September 3, 2019

While going to a music concert is something most people take for granted, for 72-year old paraplegic and Baptistcare Home Care customer Susan Edmonds it can be a logistically and physically challenging experience. But when the country music fan heard Australian music legend, Lee Kernaghan, would be playing at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre in August, there was no way she was going to miss his show.

With the help of the Home Care team at Baptistcare and her sister Judith, Susan undertook the 270km round trip from her home in Manjimup to see her favourite musician perform.

To ensure Susan’s experience was as stress-free and comfortable as possible, Baptistcare organised accessible accommodation in Bunbury and arranged for a support worker to be on-hand so she could continue to receive her regular care and support services despite being away from home.

But the aged care provider wanted to make the experience even more memorable and unbeknown to Susan, they secretly approached Lee Kernaghan to see if they could arrange for him to meet his passionate South West fan.

When Baptistcare told Lee about Susan’s determination to see him in concert, he immediately said yes to meeting her in person before the show.

Susan said the whole experience of meeting Lee and attending the concert was a blast.

“Words cannot express how happy and grateful I am to Baptistcare for making it possible for me to meet Lee Kernaghan,” she said.

“The words of his song Electric Rodeo helped me through some very dark times following my horse-riding accident in 2014, and I was able to tell Lee so in person.

“He was very charming and gracious.”

Baptistcare South West Clinical Service Facilitator, Paula Olsen, said she was delighted Susan could have such a memorable evening.

“We always want to go above and beyond to keep the people in our care happy and healthy.”

“I’m thrilled Susan and her sister were able to have such an amazing weekend,” she said.
