Arcare Pimpama’s 80-Year-Old Client Fundraises $442.50 Selling Handmade Goods at Community Event

on Thursday, September 19, 2019

80-year-old Necia Pearce had her own stall selling her handmade crochet items at Arcare Pimpama’s Spring Market Day on September 14, Saturday. She was able to fundraise approximately $442.50 for Cancer Council Australia.

Necia Pearce’s generous contributions to charity just never seem to stop!

When she was younger, every weekend was a busy weekend for her as she would be doing charity work or opening up her home to friends and family.

And when she finds time to relax in her busy schedule, knitting is her go-to activity.

She is best known for knitting handcrafted teddy bears, tea towels and coasters filled with love.

Since relocating to Arcare Pimpama, the team members have enabled her to continue her passion, from organising knitting groups to sourcing knitting yarn for her.

Necia’s handcrafted stall was a big hit with everyone, as her friendly smile and cheerful personality drew people to her stall.

During the entire event, she was surrounded by friends and family who came to support her.

Raising $250 for Cancer Council Australia is no small feat but Necia achieved it!

“I really enjoyed myself at the market day. I try to knit whenever I can because it relaxes me and it’s a great way to pass the time. But today, I’m doing it for the Cancer Council. Thank you to everyone who bought my bears and towels.” Necia said.

“We wanted to bring people together for this event and Necia’s generous contribution is a great example of giving back to the community.” Residence manager Vicky said.

“It takes a community to carry out our relationship-focussed approach, and we are committed to celebrating and supporting our clients in their old age while promoting their independence.” Community marketing officer Jamie said.

A crowd of over 400 people from the residence and the local Gold Coast community came together on Saturday to enjoy Arcare Pimpama’s first ever Spring Market Day.

It was a day filled with joy and laughter as everyone enjoyed the bustling atmosphere. For many, it was their first time attending a market day in an aged care residence!

With over 20 community stalls, free gelato from Wheel & Spoon, free pet photography from PawPosed Photography, free flower arranging workshops from Ormeau Florist and free tea and coffee from the Arcare Pimpama café, and live music, the event was a huge success!
