The Symphony Comes to Aged Care Residents in South East QLD

More than 600 Wesley Mission Queensland residents enjoyed a night of classical music on Saturday, with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s season finale streamed lived to residential aged care, supported accommodation and retirement communities across South East Queensland.

Annie Peterson, Manager of Creative Arts at Wesley Mission Queensland, said the unique performance was a first for the organisation and residents, and hopefully not the last.

“Many of our residents are music and theatre-lovers but are unable to attend for a variety of reasons including medical or mobility issues,” Ms Peterson said.

“We partnered with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra to bring conductor Alondra de la Parra’s final concert as Music Director to our residents. It was an overwhelming success, with some of our communities hosting special sit-down dinners and themed events for their residents and others dressing up, just as they would if they were going to see it live.

“An experience like this enhances the wellbeing and happiness of our residents and we hope to explore more opportunities with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Performing Arts Centre.”

The performance was also live streamed throughout regional Queensland and globally.

Queensland Symphony Orchestra Chief Executive, Craig Whitehead, said the live stream was part of its commitment to deliver ‘an Orchestra for Everyone’.

“We feel such joy that live streaming Timeless enabled music-lovers across Queensland and the world, particularly residents of Wesley Mission Queensland, to enjoy the season finale from the comfort of their own home.”
