Catholic Healthcare Lewisham Aged Care resident, Merle Slaughter, turned 100 on Saturday, 30 November and spent last weekend celebrating her life with family and friends.
Merle also enjoyed a special morning tea at Lewisham with her daughter, Leslie, carers and employees. There was a beautiful cake, flowers and a bit of dancing to celebrate.
Merle was born in 1919 in Leichhardt, and has been an inner west lady all her life. She worked for a local biscuit manufacturer, and at Grace Brothers as a carpet seamstress. Merle used to love driving around and her favourite car was a white Toyota Corolla. She still enjoys watching tennis and her favourite rugby league team is the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
Merle has two children, Leslie and Ross. She is blessed with two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
At Lewisham, Merle loves doing the morning exercises and counting the planes flying overhead on their way to Sydney Airport! She was very happy to receive a birthday card from the Queen and enjoyed celebrating her 100th and all the festivities. Happy birthday Merle!
