Australia’s Got Talent at Mercy Place Parkville

on Monday, March 2, 2020

For Valentine’s Day, Mercy Place Parkville pulled out all the stops, hosting a love themed concert and celebrating a love story spanning more than 60 years.

Mercy Place Parkville hosted former Australia’s Got Talent contestants, Sisters & Misters of Song. Led by accomplished professional singer Irene Bennetts, the 25-person choir has an impressive history, including securing a semi-finalist position on the hit show in 2011.

Donned in their distinctive black and red costumes, the vocalists entered the chapel to an amped audience. They performed hit songs such as ‘Long Way to the Top’ by Australian band AC/DC and ‘Hot Hot Hot’ by Vengaboys.

As part of their routine, the choir encourages audience participation and Mercy Place Parkville was no exception. The performance included a few staff members who were more than happy to show off their moves with the choir.

Also celebrating the day was Mercy Place Parkville’s resident love birds Piroska and Frank Unferdorben. After meeting playing tennis in Adelaide in 1958, they’ve been inseparable. The couple say they are best friends.

“The best years of my life has been shared with the love of my life, Piroska, and I am so proud of the beautiful family we have and the love that we share,” Mr Unferdorben said.

Service Manger Rachelle Regis said the home loves to celebrate Valentine’s Day and she hopes it won’t be the last time Sisters & Misters of Song come to visit.

“We had an absolute ball. Residents enjoyed singing along to some of their favourite songs and we were so happy to see everyone getting involved with such enthusiasm,” Ms Regis said.

“Valentine’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the marriages, friendships and community we have here at Mercy Place Parkville.”
