mecwacare is Proud New Owner of Aged Care Homes on the Mornington Peninsula

Not-for-profit organisation mecwacare has purchased residential aged care facilities, Country Club Lodge in Safety Beach and Shoreham House in Shoreham, from Buehler Aged Care.

mecwacare took ownership of the 45-bed and 60-bed homes respectively from 1 April 2020. This acquisition complements the organisation’s aged care residence in Mornington, mecwacare Park Hill, and brings the total number of residential aged care centres to 13 across greater Melbourne and regional Victoria.

mecwacare is a leading not-for-profit, non-denominational charitable organisation with a reputation for excellence. It has provided care in the community for more than 60 years, offering residential aged care, home care packages, respite care, home care and support, community housing, community programs, disability services and nursing services.

mecwacare supports more than 16,500 people each week through a highly integrated service network operated by more than 2,000 employees and 450 volunteers. Staff are culturally and linguistically diverse, representing 89 nationalities and speaking 98 languages to meet the needs of their clients.

Chief Executive Michele Lewis said she was delighted to welcome 105 residents and 150 staff and volunteers to the mecwacare family.

“These are wonderful facilities in a very beautiful part of the world and we can’t wait to get to know our new residents and staff,” Ms Lewis said. “We are aiming to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.”

mecwacare is a very experienced organisation with a proud 60-year history of caring for some of the most vulnerable people in the community by partnering with them to live fulfilling and purposeful lives.  

As part of the sale, both organisations have guaranteed:

• Residents do not need to leave the home in which they live as their current arrangements will not change; and
• Staff have been offered their existing positions and conditions, including entitlements with mecwacare, effective 1 April 2020

Ms Lewis said the names of the facilities have changed to mecwacare Calwell Manor (Safety Beach) and mecwacare Annie’s Court (Shoreham).
