All around the world, as well as in Australia, it is not unusual to see a teddy bear or two peeping out of a window, balcony or fence. If you are wondering what this is all about, welcome to one of the latest and most popular activities to keep children entertained during the coronavirus pandemic – teddy bear hunt! No one knows where or how the trend began, but residents at BlueCross Livingstone Gardens are certainly not missing out on the fun!
Residents have been busy placing teddy bears of all sizes and colours in their front windows as part of the community 'bear hunt' for children to find. To get the children closer to the action, staff also placed some teddies on the fence around the home.
“We put out signs telling our young scavengers to give the teddies a hug,” said Joanne King, Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator at BlueCross Livingstone Gardens. “Children in the neighbourhood are loving it and it’s so cute to see some of them giving the bears a squeeze or a hug when they are out for walks with their parents.”
Residents, are of course, keeping an eye out for these delightful moments so they can wave to the children from their windows.
“We also made contact with the local kindies to let them know what we are doing. Since then, we have had families stopping by at the home to look for the teddies. It made our day seeing the children’s happy faces as they tried to spot and count the teddies,” said Joanne.
“Such fun activities have brought the community together and brightened up the children’s day. It has been equally beneficial for our residents who were excited to be involved.”
If you’re in the neighbourhood, do join in the fun and keep a look out for the bears!
