Dementia Australia’s Centre for Dementia Learning Supporting Carers with Pilot Program

on Tuesday, June 9, 2020

With more than 459,000 Australians estimated to be living with dementia in 2020, there is a growing need for a highly skilled aged care workforce to provide dementia care. However, even with appropriate levels of education, there are substantial barriers for individuals and organisations in applying this newly-acquired knowledge to practice.

Dementia Australia’s Centre for Dementia Learning is exploring how to better support the application of this learning to practice and help aged care workers to overcome the often difficult and challenging process of making transformational change in dementia care.

Beginning this year, a pilot program funded by the Priceline Sisterhood Foundation is being delivered by the Centre for Dementia Learning to establish a number of Communities of Practice for workers in residential and community aged care across Australia.

Participants will share a commitment to transforming dementia practice in their respective organisations through the initiative, and there will be opportunities for them to interact regularly online to share information, resources and expertise.

Participants will have continued access to Dementia Australia education and resources on new and emerging improvements in dementia care, as well as practical support on how to implement change.
