Lavington Aged Care Resident Celebrates 100 Years

on Tuesday, June 23, 2020

Lavington local, Lola Bradley, will be celebrating her 100th birthday on the 26 June. This is an important milestone for Lola, who is an avid painter, but a great opportunity for the entire community to acknowledge and celebrate. She is the first centenarian at Southern Cross Care Lavington Residential Aged Care.

Observing and adhering to the current social distancing restrictions, Southern Cross Care NSW/ACT will be celebrating Lola’s birthday at the centre with her family and friends.

Helen Emmerson, CEO of Southern Cross Care NSW/ACT, says it is an absolute pleasure to celebrate such a wonderful milestone with Lola and her family at the home.

“We are very excited to be celebrating this special occasion with Lola. Despite this current difficult times, the Takel family and Lavington residents will be able to join together in a momentous and happy occasion.”

Lola Joyce (Blum) Takel was born sixth of nine children in the small town of Glenalbyn, VIC

At the age of 15-16, Lola left school to join the workforce as a waitress and a nanny. She then went on to join the Army as a Clerk in 1941 at the age of 21 and served until 1944.

She discovered her amazing talent as a painter in her 50s when she started attending art classes. Lola’s talent was so great that she had her artwork was displayed in the Melbourne Art museum.

Since joining the residents at Southern Cross Care Lavington Residential Aged Care, Lola has never lost her spunk and determination. She continued to paint for many years with some of her artwork on display within the home.

Lola looks forward to her twice weekly visits from son, Warwick, who often takes her out for a drive and some lunch.
