SummitCare’s Community Connection

on Friday, October 9, 2020

At SummitCare, community is everything. This leading residential aged care provider operates ten nursing homes in suburban communities across Sydney and one in Newcastle.

SummitCare's homes are located in Baulkham Hills, St Mary’s, Liverpool, Canley Vale, Smithfield, Penrith, Randwick, Waverley and Wallsend.

“Many of our residents come from local areas so SummitCare staff work hard to keep the community connections alive,” says Corporate General Manager Sale & Communication, Rina Fuimaono.

“We run activities such as using local GPs and support services, work with local hospitals and health networks, engage with community clubs and groups, sponsor local work placements and events, and take residents on local outings for shopping, sightseeing and picnics.”

Intergenerational programs with local schools and kindergartens, local musicians and entertainers, pet therapy and bus trips to community hotspots are some of the programs used by each of the homes to keep residents socially active and engaged together.

Staff participate in the annual Dementia Walk, Dementia Australia’s biggest national fundraising event, and are involved in local charities, such as Bush Fire appeals to support local communities and people in need.

SummitCare centers prove their community credentials by entering local business award programs. Recently, they’ve had great recognition. The residences in Baulkham Hills, Canley Vale, Liverpool, Smithfield and St Mary’s have all been acknowledged as finalists in the Local Business Awards.

“Through programs like these, seven of our ten homes have proven that they operate as organisations that go above and beyond, delivering exceptional customer service,” adds Rina.

“We’re very proud of this type acknowledgement as it vindicates our standing in our local communities.”

And, within its homes, SummitCare also imbues a strong sense of community for residents. Every resident has a unique story to tell. SummitCare recognises and values the importance of combining a variety of different cultures, backgrounds and generations to develop a truly diverse community where the sense of self and belonging is nurtured.

“And, we encourage residents to invite family and friends for meals, cultural events and special occasions. It’s all part of keeping our residents connected and engaged,” Rina adds.

“By bringing meaningful programs into SummitCare aged care homes, we keep community connections alive and thriving to develop experiences that add quality and value to the lives of all residents.

“We are committed to bringing engaging activities and supportive environments to all residents, with a special focus on continuously improving our culture of respect and inclusion while exercising choice and independence for all. Community involvement is very important to our residents and we’re delighted to help them stay connected.”
