Catholic Healthcare is proud to be opening Brisbane’s newest Memory Support Unit at Villa Maria in Fortitude Valley.
The purpose-built dedicated Memory Support Unit is a comfortable and inclusive environment that helps people living with dementia continue living life to the full, with a range of dementia-specific leisure and wellbeing activities.
All staff have specialised training and experience in dementia care.
Residential Manager of Villa Maria, Beth Kitoli said, “Our new Unit, designed in accordance with Dementia Services Australia’s best practice standards, provides dementia-specific care that is flexible and meets individual resident needs.
“Our personalised care approach is based on respect and nurturing each individual to really get to know who they are, learning about each resident’s interests, experiences and passions and encouraging them to pursue these and discover new ones, so that we can care for them better,” added Beth.
The Memory Support Unit will be home to 18 residents living with dementia.
The large airy rooms are beautifully furnished in the grand heritage-listed building with outdoor courtyards and city views that can be accessed by residents during the day and night. Residents will enjoy meals cooked onsite daily by the chef and dining rooms set daily with white tablecloths.
Five new residents will be moving into their new home next week and further residents will follow in the coming weeks. Villa Maria has a qualified history in their approach to aged care.
Villa Maria is currently offering two weeks free respite care.
