The residents at Huntingdon Gardens Aged Care in Bexley NSW have taken on an exciting new project, to make 100 children’s toys 100 days in the lead up to Christmas.
This project is helping residents to maintain social connections and provide engaging activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The toys will be donated to local charities and the Children’s ward at St George Hospital.
The residents have put their enthusiasm and talents together to come up with some great ideas, including small tote bags colored by the residents and gorgeous hand crafted toys stitched by hand with love.
The knitting group has come up with a great idea to create some soft knitted and the Men’s Group have been creating traditional old fashioned wooden toys.
As there were 100 days until Christmas when the project was first started, the residents decided to challenge themselves to help the local community.
The idea of making 100 toys in 100 days has given the residents a new purpose during the COVID-19 pandemic and has helped them to stay engaged during the times when restrictions where in place.
It is so wonderful to see the enthusiasm and great spirt in residents, knowing that their hard work and dedication to this project will give vulnerable young children gifts this Christmas.
